Doctoral program (computer science)

PhD students in years 1-3

The new doctoral program ([short version]) applies to PhD students starting in year 2023/24 or later. The program includes, among other things:

  1. Research Seminar (semesters 1-8). [list]
  2. Discipline Lecture.
In years I-III, a total of 90 hours of these subjects must be completed. In the field of computer science, this role is primarily fulfilled by PhDOpen courses [website]. These are short courses from various areas of computer science taught by outstanding researchers (usually from other research institutions). One PhDOpen course counts as 10 hours. Typically, 5-6 such courses are organized in an academic year.
Additionally, each year, several monographic lectures will be offered (counting as 30 hours) as disciplinary lectures for doctoral students. [list]
In justified cases, the Director of the Doctoral School may approve a lecture from outside the offered pool of lectures.
  3. Monographic Lecture.
In years I-IV, a total of 30 hours must be completed, which is one elective monographic lecture from the Faculty of MIM's offerings (without limitations). In particular, three PhDOpen courses can also fulfill this role.

The choice of subjects to be credited should be agreed with your PhD advisor.

PhD students in year 4

The old doctoral program [link] applies to PhD students who started before Oct 2023. The program includes, among other things:

  1. Research Seminar (semesters 1-8). [list]
  2. PhDOpen Courses and/or Elective Courses. [website]
During years I-III you should take 90 hours of these courses; here one PhDOpen course counts as 10 hours and one elective course counts as 30 hours. In exceptional circumstances, some of the 90hrs can be also filled with summer schools – in this last case the amount of hours counted is decided case by case by the director of the school, prof. Latała.
  3. (so-called) Methodological Classes: 30 hrs in total during semesters 2-4. You can choose any three PhDOpen short courses [website] or a course from this [list].

The choice of subjects to be credited should be agreed with your PhD advisor.
