The Poincaré-Hopf index of vector fields on a singular varieties

We present a joint work with Gomez-Mont and Luis Giraldo. We define the Poincaré-Hopf index of a vector field X tangent to a singular variety V. We show how this index can be calculated in the complex and real case in terms of local algebras associated to the problem.
