The goal of the talk is to discuss harmonic functions (maps) with domain contained in the Grushin space and a Euclidean target. Such maps can have various definitions (not all equivalent); the most common is a solution to a specific hypoelliptic PDE. We introduce a different approach and provide a justification for it, based on the internal geometry of the space.

As a preliminary, we will define Grushin spaces and present sufficient conditions for the well-definiteness of the related Carnot-Carathéodory distance.

The presentation is based on joint work with Tomasz Adamowicz (IMPAN) and Ben Warhurst
