The Excellence Initiative – Research University (IDUB)

IDUB initiatives in POB3

Within IDUB program (Excellence Initiative Research Univeristy) there is in particular POB3 (Priority Research Area), which covers, i.a., whole mathematics and computer science.

Within POB3 members of our Faculty may participate in one of the following actions (find below detailed information on POB3):

  1. Foreign internships by doctoral students at the UW (90-180 days) - the call is open twice per year, who can apply: PhD students.
  2. Thematic Research Programmes. One may apply for maximal 300 000 PLN that can be used for: temporary research positions, organization of schools, workshops, and conferences, hosting short term visits. The call is open twice a year, who can apply: employees.
  3. POB3 microgrants. One may apply for maximally 20 000 PLN that can be used for: research visits and participation in conferences/workshops/schools, hosting short term visits, organization of small research meetings - Applications may be submitted on a continuous basis, who can apply: employees.
  4. Scholarships to master’s students at the University of Warsaw in the field of statistics and statistical applications. The call is open once a year, who can apply: masters students.
  5. Postdoc positions. The call is open once a year (with application deadline around mid February). Expected gross base salary 10 000 PLN with additions around 140 000 PLN per year, who can apply: people holding a PhD diploma in mathematics or computer science.
  6. Specialised lectures on statistics. The call is open twice a year, who can apply: employees.
  7. New Ideas A: research grants up to around 100 000 PLN/year for researchers up to 7 years after PhD. The call is open once per year, who can apply: young employees
  8. New Ideas B: research grants up to around 100 000 PLN/year for researchers at least 7 years after PhD. The call is open once per year, who can apply: experienced employees
  9. Scholarships for Olympians. The programme is addressed to the winners of the national Olympiads in particular subjects. The call is open once per year, who can apply: high school students (candidates for the bachelor studies)
  10. Visits of PhD students from foreign research centers UW employees can apply for co-financing of a PhD student's visit from 3 weeks to 6 months. Applications may be submitted on a continuous basis, who can apply: employees

Microgrants in POB3 (Action I.1.5) - applications submitted on a continuous basis

Withing this project employess may apply for maximally 20 000 PLN research visits and participation in conferences/workshops/schools, hosting short term visits, organization of small research meetings. Supervisior may apply for support for their PhD students. Applications should be approved by the director of the applicant's Institute.

Specialised lectures on statistics (Action II.3.8)

Within this project an employee of our Faculty can invite a lecturer (from another domestic or foreign institutions), who will deliver a series of lectures in statistics for masters and PhD students. Funding is possible for all cost required to organize this event (including the salary of the lecturer, travel costs, coffee breaks).

Scholarships to master’s students at the University of Warsaw in the field of statistics and statistical applications (Action II.3.8)

The aim of the scholarship is the inclusion of master’s degree students at the University of Warsaw, whose scientific interests are thematically related to Action II.3.8., in the implementation of research projects in the field of statistics or statistical applications, led by a research supervisor, and to create better conditions for their scientific development.

Master's students planning research in statistics may apply for scholarships in the amount 1500 PLN gross/month.

Foreign internships by doctoral students at the UW (Action IV.1.2)

PhD students of Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences and PhD students of MIMUW can apply for founding an internships of length 90-180 days in prestigious foreign centers. It is possible to apply for founding for travel, board, and lodging up to 270 PLN/day (in special cases it is possible to apply to increase the daily allowance).

Post-doc positions (Action I.1.5)

Competition for a post-doc position is intended for people max. 5 years after obtaining their PhD who have worked in a foreign institution for at least 15 months in the last 3 years. The expected basic salary is approximately 10 000 PLN with additionas approximately  140 000 PLN/year. Persons employed in this position will have a budget of 15 000 PLN for trips and hosting guests.

Scholarships for Olympians (Action III.3.1)

There is a plan to award approximately 250 scholarships per year to the best candidates – winners of subject Olympiads and participants in other international Olympiad competitions. The scholarship will amount to 1000 PLN/month and will be paid in two instalments per semester.

Visits of PhD students from foreign research centers (Action I.1.5)

As part of the project, UW employees can apply for co-financing of a PhD student's visit from 3 weeks to 6 months. The planned date of its completion cannot exceed 30 December 2025. All costs related to the project must be incurred during the implementation of the project. As part of the project, you can apply for co-financing of:

  • PhD student's travel costs (to Warsaw and return to the place of permanent residence),
  • accommodation in UW centers (Hera, Sokrates, Cyklotron, guest rooms in dormitories).
  • per diem of PLN 70/day

The condition for settling the project is the preparation and submission of a scientific publication in cooperation with the invited PhD student.
