I will present results from a recent paper "From Rate Distortion Theory to Metric Mean Dimension: Variational Principle" by E. Lindenstrauss and M. Tsukamoto, were the variational principle for metric mean dimension is provided in terms of an information-theoretic notion of rate-distortion function.
