In this seminar, I will review two topics. Firstly, I will briefly review my PhD research within the Donders Graduate School, Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. My work concerns developing new methods for effective connectivity in the field of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. I will also reflect on how studying mathematics at the University of Warsaw helped me to go through the PhD in computational neuroscience. Lastly, I will list the topics in the field of neuroscience where skills in applied mathematics are most necessary.
