See why it is hard at the Faculty of MIM
Studying at the Faculty of MIM can be difficult for several reasons.
First of all, it presents quite an intellectual challenge. Academic mathematics, which is also an important part of computer science and bioinformatics studies, is different from the mathematics you know from high school. Very often, you will be asked to solve tasks that require longer thought and reflection, rather than mastering a specific solving scheme and applying it. Consequently, the key skills we are expecting from you are perseverance, the ability to focus on a problem for a long period of time and patience.
Secondly, you have found yourself - perhaps for the first time in your life - in a group of very talented people with the same interests, and you start to notice that there are people who are faster than you at solving tasks, more efficient at programming, more able to follow what is going on in class - you are no longer the best. Perhaps there are even times when you don't understand the material in a lecture or class. This can be a difficult, stressful experience.
