Mathematics, like no other subject, requires an unflinching honesty: the ability to admit to oneself (and to others) that one does not know, does not understand, cannot do something.
Exploring mathematics sooner or later must lead to practicing it for its own sake.
From Wikipedia: Sławomir is an Old Polish male [hence, I am male] given name of Slavic origin consists of two parts: "sława/slava" - glory, fame and "mir" - world, peace, prestige.
The short version, "Sławek", is an abbreviation pretty much the same as "Alex" is for "Alexander". It is not a diminutive form.
