Scholarship for MSc students in Algebraic Geometry in Warsaw

The scholarship is offered within the Sonata grant
Generalizations and applications of Bialynicki-Birula decomposition supported by the NCN (National Science Center, Poland) which is conducted at the
Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw with Joachim Jelisiejew as the Principal Investigator.
Details and conditions:
- Default timespan of the scholarship: October 2021 - September 2022.
- At the starting date the applicant must be enrolled to an MSc program at a Polish University at a department specialising in mathematics.
- Candidates are expected to have at least basic knowledge of algebraic geometry.
- The successful candidate is expected to prepare their Master thesis under the supervision of one of the grant team members:
Maria Donten-Bury,
Joachim Jelisiejew,
Magdalena Zielenkiewicz.
- The successful student will receive a scholarship of 1000 PLN per month. In addition, the student will be granted an access to research costs, such as travel to conferences etc.
Application details
The fellow must respect the NCN rules of funding,
including those listed on page 7 of
this document.
In particular,
no salary from NCN is allowed at the same time as his/her scholarship in the project (page 7, subsection 2.1.3, item (b)).

Applications should be submitted at the latest on
September 20, 2021 via e-mail to Joachim Jelisiejew, jjelisiejew@mimuw.edu.pl, with the subject line "Application for MSc scholarship". Related inquiries should also be sent to the same address.
An application should contain:
- basic personal data, including name(s), surname, date of birth, e-mail, and possibly other contact data,
- information about candidate's studies, such as the date of commencement, department(s), the list of advanced lectures attended by the candidate,
- information about candidate's scientific achievements, such as average grade from previous academic years, information about BSc thesis (praca licencjacka) with a link to the thesis itself, awards and distinctions, scholarships, and other information the applicant finds relevant,
- a brief description of candidate's mathematical interests and/or plans (or expectations) for his/her Master thesis and the preferred supervisor.
- All the documents above must be submitted in Polish or in English.
The application will be evaluated by the committee consisting of Jarosław Buczyński, Joachim Jelisiejew (chair), and Magdalena Zielenkiewicz. The committee reserves the right to
interview the best candidates prior to the decision. The invitations for the interview, if any, will arrive as soon as possible and the interviews will be conducted using zoom. The decisions will be sent before 1 Oct 2021.
